The State of Florida has of the fastest growing Jewish communities in the country. According to a recent University of Florida Census Study, Florida has seen an influx of over 2.7 million new residents over the last decade and many of them are Jewish.
The Florida Region of the Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs (FJMC) is also growing; in the past year we affiliated several additional Men’s Clubs and Brotherhoods. In June of 2023, the Florida Region of FJMC also expanded its Executive Board in order to better serve our network of affiliated clubs, electing a new Regional President (Ed Kochman), a new Executive Vice President (Jon Zimmer) and appointing three new “Regional Advisors” and three new “members at large” to the Board.
Today we shine a spotlight on Florida Region FJMC Regional Advisor Elliott Davis, Immediate Past President of Congregation Ohev Shalom (COS) Men’s Club of Maitland, Florida.
Elliott’s role as Florida “Regional Advisor” is to work closely with affiliated Men’s Clubs and Brotherhoods within Florida Region to help “foster brotherhood and friendship by involving Jewish men in Jewish life” as well as to assist with Club succession planning and finding future leaders, programming, recruitment and retention of members, programs to attract younger members, organizing and implementing retreats and offering an outside perspective to brainstorm ideas about making your Men’s Club or Brotherhood even better.
“The life cycles of the clubs and brotherhoods ebb and flow”, said Elliott. “Some are strong. Some are having challenges. All clubs go through good times and challenging times. The FJMC and our Region exist to help ALL our clubs to thrive.”
Elliott Davis is an invaluable resource to your Florida Region FJMC affiliated Men’s Club or Brotherhood; he can be reached at ELLIOTTdavisfjmc@aol.com.
Elliott Davis has been associated with the FJMC since 2001. He currently serves as the immediate Past President of the Congregation Ohev Shalom (Maitland, FL) Men’s Club, as well as on the Florida Region FJMC board as Vice President and Regional advisor to the Central Florida clubs. Elliott is a member of “FJMC-311 Club Consultants Team“, an FJMC initiative available to support ANY club seeking a hand. Elliott has held many important roles and positions at the local, regional, and international level. He served as President of the Temple Israel (Winter Springs, FL) Men’s Club for 2 terms, from 2002 to 2005. After relocating to South Florida in 2005, he joined the Florida Region as a Vice President of the South Florida Region. In 2007, he was elected as Treasurer of the Florida Region and in 2009 was chosen as the President of Florida Region FJMC. In 2010, Elliott was asked to co-chair LDI, focusing on recruitment of younger men. The success of this LDI training session can be highlighted by the number of men that were introduced to FJMC at LDI and now play a prominent role on the FJMC international board. In 2017, Elliott was selected as the Florida Region Ma’asim Tovim honoree, in recognition for his many years of service. As well as leading his Men’s Club, Elliott has been the editor of a monthly Men’s Club newsletter since October 2020. The COS Men’s Club won a Gold Torch Award for Communications at the 2022 FJMC biennial convention.
