David Mark is a veteran national political reporter, accomplished author, and frequent public speaker with expertise on American politics. He has spent his career covering Capitol Hill, the U.S. government and presidential campaigns, starting as a reporter for Congressional Quarterly and later as editor-in-chief of Campaigns & Elections, a senior editor at Politico for six years, and then as editor-in-chief of Politix. He also served as an editor at CNN during the 2016 election cycle. Most recently, he was a senior editor at the Washington Examiner and is now managing editor for the Washington Examiner magazine. David has appeared regularly as a political analyst on TV and radio newscasts, and has spoken or lectured about policy and politics in academic and other settings nationwide, as well as in 20 countries on trips through the U.S. State Department and European Union, including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Botswana, Fiji, Finland, France, Ireland, Israel, Lithuania, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Sweden, Tonga, Uganda and the United Kingdom. He is also the author of two books – Going Dirty: The Art of Negative Campaigning and Dog Whistles, Walk-Backs and Washington Handshakes: Decoding the Jargon Slang and Bluster of American Political Speech, written with Almanac of American Politics co-author Chuck McCutcheon. A native of California, David earned his bachelor’s degree in politics from Brandeis University and a master’s degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
