The Florida Region of the Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs is home to a geographically diverse array of Men’s Clubs and Brotherhoods with a vast, collective library of fun, home-grown educational, team building and social action programs and initiatives.
In this four-part series, Florida Region FJMC invites you to take a seat at the table, expand your palate and try something new with the “TXOKO Culinary Club”, an original program from the Brotherhood of Kol Ami in Tampa, Florida.
The “TXOKO Culinary Club” is a hands-on, participatory group gastronomic experience with a focus on learning about, preparing and enjoying a delicious and authentic communal meal of home-made, ethnic “Jewish food” from different countries and cultures from around the world.
The inaugural gathering of the “TXOKO Culinary Club” focused on the aromatic, colorful and vibrantly flavored foods of Persia, a country with a Jewish culinary and cultural flair that predates the destruction of the First Temple in 586 BCE.
Kol Ami Brotherhood President Jon Zimmer reports that 18 Brotherhood members got together to prepare a traditional Jewish Persian meal including both Kosher meat and vegetarian options along with some libations. “Members broke up into small groups to prepare delicious dishes in the kitchen and social hall; after minyan they all sat down to share stories, more libations and enjoy the feast.”
