Join the Temple Beth Sholom Men's Club and become part of our outstanding and sustainable Jewish community

The Temple Beth Sholom Men’s Club of Sarasota, Florida is dedicated to involving men of all ages in Jewish life through social, educational, religious and civic activities. They provide quality and relevant programming to help develop and enhance our knowledge and understanding of Judaism and provide needed service and help with fundraising for the synagogue, offering a full calendar of events, ranging from breakfasts with thought-provoking speakers and social action events, to tzedakah for the congregation. Men’s Club also co-sponsors some events with the Sisterhood, such as the Annual Passover Barbecue and we maintain the Judaica Museum and the Holocaust Memorial Garden, which fronts the entryway to the Temple. Members of the Men’s Club participate in and contribute to the daily minyan and provide the Wednesday morning breakfast after the minyan; they are gabbais, helpers and ushers for shul services and advisors for how to put on Tefillin. Men’s Club also has an active outreach program; they interface, participate, and contribute to all areas and groups on the Temple Beth Sholom campus, seeding new programs and encouraging intergenerational activities. All male temple members are welcome to join and help us fulfill our goal of service to the Temple.

TBS Men’s Club President Joel Servetz wishes everyone a Happy Hanukkah 5785 and invites you to start the Festival of Lights on Tuesday evening December 24 when the Temple Beth Sholom Men’s Club will host their annual dinner and movie event including a home made Italian dinner, beverages, popcorn (and sweets) along with a screening of the Hollywood Blockbuster “Cast a Giant Shadow” starring Kirk Douglas. Tickets are only $25 for adults, to RSVP Contact Men’s Club President Joel Servetz at videobyjoel@aol.com.

On Sunday evening January 12, 2025 at 7:00pm, the Temple Beth Shalom Men’s Club and Sisterhood will help co-sponsor with the Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee and a series of Jewish and Christian agencies to invite the community to hear Daniel Kurtzer, former US Ambassador to Israel and Egypt speak on the topic “Israel and the Region After the War in Gaza: Inflection Point or More of the Same?” The war in Gaza has unleashed a torrent of threats against Israel and has at least temporarily halted the normalization process between Israel and some Arab states. Without a clear plan for the “day after,” the region could sink further into chaotic violence, or it could emerge with a new resolve to solve some of its endemic problems. Ambassador Kurtzer will discuss these issues within the context of regional politics and the U.S. domestic political debate. This program is open to the entire community and will take place at Temple Beth Sholom- 1050 S. Tuttle Ave., Sarasota. Advanced tickets are $ 20.00 and at the door, the cost is $ 25.00. Join the World Wide Wrap

On Superbowl Sunday February 9, 2025 the Beth Shalom Men’s Club will take part in the FJMC World Wide Wrap, an international, coordinated minyan encouraging Jewish men and women to learn about and participate in one of the basic commandments in the Torah: the wrapping of tefillin. The program will include breakfast and a special speaker from the American Jewish Committee to discuss antisemitism.

On Sunday March 2, 2025 aka 2 Adar 5785, the TBS Men’s Club will host a special breakfast program; “Moses, the Hollywood Star” featuring guest speaker JT Thaler.

On Monday March 10, Men’s Club members will meet in the TBS Sainer Social Hall for packing and mailing of Yom HaShoah Yellow candles. Each year, the FJMC Shoah Yellow Candle™ Program distributes tens of thousands Yellow Candles™ to Men’s Clubs, Brotherhoods and houses of worship to help remember the Holocaust. Men’s Clubs and other organizations around the world order Yellow Candles™ from the FJMC and distribute them to their membership with a short explanation of the program. On the night of Yom HaShoah, the candles are lit in homes across the globe to shine a light of memory, a light of education, and a light that we will never forget. By participating in this program, you are helping to keep the memory of the Shoah alive and to remember what could happen if we don’t stand up for ourselves. Yom HaShoah begins at sundown Wednesday April 23, 2025 / 27 Nisan 5785. Light a candle, preserve a memory.
