The Temple Beth Shalom Men’s Club officially kicked off their 2025 programming schedule with New Year’s Day Brunch to watch the Rose Bowl Parade and enjoy morning Mimosa’s, strong coffee, Bagels & Lox and all the fixings. On January 19, 2025, the Men’s Club will hosted an informative Brunch program featuring special guest speaker Ray Leonard for a presentation about his recently published book “The Sons of Srol“. The book tells the story of the Abramajtys family, and how growing antisemitism in the Russian empire drove them to emigrate at the end of the 19th century; the sons of Srol Abramajtys took different courses, one to the United States and one to France. The book tells the stories of these two branches, from growth in New York and Chicago to the worldwide battlefields of the second world war and in France, the devastating effects of the Nazi occupation in 1940-44.

Men’s Club scored a double header on Superbowl Sunday when the CBT Men’s Club took part in the FJMC World Wide Wrap, an international, coordinated minyan encouraging Jewish men and women to learn about and participate in one of the basic commandments in the Torah: the wrapping of tefillin. The fun continued into the evening with a Superbowl viewing party. Recently, several CBT Men’s Club members met with dozens of other Men’s Club and Brotherhood members from across the Southeastern US at the FJMC Anshei Darom Region Men’s Club Retreat at Camp Ramah Darom.

Looking ahead, Men’s Club President Jay Givarz invites to to save the date(s) Sunday March 30, 2025 for a Men’s Club breakfast and speaker and Wednesday April 16 for a special Passover friendly Matzah Brei Breakfast.

As time marches forward, it is our task to remember and teach about the Shoah. During April, Men’s Club members will distribute FJMC Shoah Yellow Candles™ to our Temple Beth Shalom family of families. On the night of Yom HaShoah, the candles will be lit to shine a light of memory, a light of education, and a light that we will never forget. By participating in this program, you are helping to keep the memory of the Shoah alive and to remember what could happen if we don’t stand up for ourselves. Yom HaShoah begins at sundown Wednesday April 23, 2025 / 27 Nisan 5785. Please join us in a moment of solidarity for our six million brothers and sisters that were lost in the Shoah.
