According to the latest US Census data, Florida is one of the fastest growing regions of the country with population growth of 2.7 million (14.6%) between 2010 and 2020, double the rate of overall US population. With a population of 65,398 as per 2019 U.S. Census Bureau estimates, Wellington, Florida is the most populous village in the state as well as the fifth largest municipality in Palm Beach County by population. Wellington has the distinction of being the winter equestrian capital of the world, as well as the home of the Temple Beth Torah Brotherhood.
Temple Beth Torah (TBT) is an active and dynamic part of the fabric of life in Wellington, as well as the greater Jewish community of South Florida. TBT is a family of families, a vibrant Reform Jewish congregation that is actively engaged in the lives of over 1,100 people. Close to 750 adults call TBT their spiritual home, 100+ young children attend their accredited preschool, another 250 from kindergarten to grade 12 take part in TBT religious school programs and dozens of teens participate in TBT / NFTY youth programs.
The Temple Beth Torah Brotherhood is a place where people meet, plan and make friends. Brotherhood dues helps support family activities, provides extra funds for TBT youth groups and sponsors temple events and other programs.
The Brotherhood also does the important work, their fundraising activities cover the cost of many programs for the congregation, helping to fund gifts for youth groups and purchase educational tools for schools and an annual donation to help underprivileged families in the community. The Brotherhood builds the congregational sukkah and aids with refreshments at many temple events including the Purim Carnival and Chanukah Party. Brotherhood members also plan and participate in a special Brotherhood Shabbat Worship Service and work with TBT planning an annual family picnic event and other family outings.
On November 20, the Brotherhood held a breakfast meeting to review recent activities, discuss programming for the coming year and introduce Florida Region FJMC Vice President Rich Nebb.
Brotherhood President Joel Zaidspiner reported that the TBT Brotherhood recently hosted a well attended kick-off dinner and thanks to a successful 2022 golf tournament fundraiser, the Brotherhood was able to make a $500 donation to the Donna’s Fund for Women in Distress and a $500 donation to the Jewish Federation Hurricane Ian Relief Fund.
On December 10 the TBT Brotherhood and Sisterhood will co-host an evening of Latkes and Vodka featuring a guided tasting of good variety of vodkas under the expert supervision of a skilled Vodka Sommelier, along with delicious latkes, cheese, fruit and other tasty treats. On December 21, Brotherhood members and guests are invited to join other Florida Region FJMC Men’s Clubs and Brotherhoods for a Chanukah Hockey Night Out with the Florida Panthers at FLA Live Arena in Sunrise. On January 12, 2023 the Brotherhood will sponsor a paid-up membership dinner; location TBA.
Save the dates, March 12, 2023 for the World Baseball Classic featuring Team Israel and March 13, 2023, for the annual TBT Brotherhood Poker Night fundraiser that supports the TBT Scholarship Fund for graduating seniors. Looking ahead, the Brotherhood is planning a family miniature golf event in April or May, 2023 as well as a “$5,000 Raffle” fundraiser drawn in June 2023 to help the temple and support local charities.
