From Ed Kochman, President Florida Region FJMC:
Greetings Florida Men’s Clubber’s and Brotherhood Members, Friends and interested parties:
On behalf of the State of Florida Region FJMC, our Officers, and Directors and Rabbinic Advisor, I bring greetings and well wishes to everyone. As the drought seems to have come to an end with the storms and flooding this past week, I sincerely hope that all made it through the storms unscathed. I also hope that all had an inspiring Shavuot experience as well. My wife and I attended an interesting ‘night of learning’ on Erev Shavuot with a panel discussion by three area Rabbis which was most interesting and enlightening focusing on some of the turmoil and hatred currently facing the Jewish Community.
I am still somewhat in ‘’recovery mode’ with continuing at home healthcare, PT, OT, and Nursing services and continue to improve with the introduction of yet more medications – My Pharmacist loves me. I have a few more hurdles to overcome a surgical procedure within the next couple of weeks; but I am getting through these challenges. B’H. I do again wish to thank Our Regional Officers including past Regional Presidents for picking up the slack and keeping the Region on course. Also a shout out of gratitude to our Regional Webmaster for keeping everyone informed and connected with what is happening both in the Region and also Internationally with FJMC.
For those of you who may not know as yet we have welcomed to our Board of Directors two new members – one actually was on the board by virtue of his being a club president that being Natan Brenner and we are lucky to have another transplanted leader from the Middle Atlantic Region (MAR) former executive officer, Jason Waksman. Both of which will be taking an active role in our forthcoming Regional Ruach Retreat which will take place November 1, 2 and 3, 2024 at the North Orlando Sheraton Hotel. Mark your calendars and SAVE the dates!!! This is sure to be both a wonderful leadership training, learning, and fun event for all.
Some other regional events coming up shortly are the Jewish Heritage Celebration at the Marlin’s v Chicago Baseball game on August 25th. Speaking of Chicago – save the date again for the FJMC Biennial Convention where – of course in Chicago (also at a Sheraton) July 3 through 6th 2025. Also again this year the Florida Region will be an active participant in the Annual Football Pool – this is a ‘no brainer’ fund raiser for each club in the region. For each ticket sold or purchased through a club, the club will receive $3.00 per ticket. It is easy money with no downside. Please promote and support this event.
Through the auspices of the FJMC there is a myriad of programs available both for our members and our clubs through the FJMC Affinity Groups. Weekly webinars covering religious topics, young Family programing; Inclusion initiatives, Israel Advocacy, Sports, investment, Yiddish and more. Also within our regional items of interest is our weekly “choose Shabbat” posting which is a mini discussion of the weeks Torah Portion presented by our Rabbinic Adviser/Spiritual Leader Rabbi Michael Kline. Please check out all these offerings via our website and or our Facebook Page. There is a plethora of information, ideas, programs and links to help strengthen your club, develop new leaders and help our current leaders as well.
Again, I wish to thank not only our Regional Officers and Board, but also the International FJMC liaisons who have also been looking after us and helping too. I wish you all a safe enjoyable Summer and a quiet hurricane season and hope to see you at one of our upcoming events. Remember, we are all a part of an incredible Brotherhood, helping each other in any way possible…
Working Together We Can and Will Accomplish So Much More.
Sincerely,
Ed Kochman
President, Florida Region FJMC,
FJMC International Board of Directors
