According to the latest US Census data, Florida is one of the fastest growing regions of the country with population growth of 2.7 million (14.6%) between 2010 and 2020, double the rate of overall US population. The Florida Region of FJMC is also growing and today we are proud to announce that the Southwest Orlando Jewish Congregation (SOJC) has joined Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs.
The Southwest Orlando Jewish Congregation (SOJC) serves the spiritual and social needs of the diverse Jewish community of the greater Orlando area. SOJC offers a meaningful Jewish experience with participatory, energetic and egalitarian services and a robust portfolio of Jewish adult education opportunities, multiple Jewish Youth Groups (3rd-5th grade, 6th-8th grade and 9th-12th grade), as well as monthly social, cultural and community action programs and events.
The SOJC Men’s Club may be new to the FJMC, however they have a long history of many well attended programs and activities including Grand Prix and Laser Tag at Pointe Orlando, Co-Ed Volleyball, Skeet Shooting, a night at Player-One Video Game Bar, a Poker Night, Beer and Football at World of Beer, and much more.
Many thanks to the leadership and vision of previous SOJC Men’s Club Presidents Jeffrey Imber and Ben Bolusky, who helped to renew and rejuvenate the Men’s Club over the past several years, as well as to incoming 2024 /2025 Men’s Club President Mitch Katcher, “a third generation Brooklyn boy”, who along with his wife retired from careers as NYC school administrators before moving to the Orlando area and joining SOJC.
Looking ahead to 5785 and beyond, the SOJC Men’s Club planning a full slate of programming and activities and they want you to join the fun. The club has already enjoyed a “Pizza and Game Afternoon,” a local “Dinner and a Movie night,” and are looking forward to a “Boating and Wading Day” on the lakes in Orlando this July. On Sunday morning October 6, 2024 join us for bagels, brotherhood, and to help erect the SOJC Congregational Sukkah (no experience required). Also, please join the SOJC Men’s Club on Saturday evening October 19 for an adults-only evening of “Spirits in the Sukkah”; stay tuned for more information.
