- If I had a TARDIS and could travel anywhere in time and space, then where and when would I go? Where else but Sunny Florida in 1999 to read the latest edition of the quarterly Florida Region FJMC newsletter, Tapuz.
The cover story in the Summer 1999 issue of Tapuz (Volume VI, No.3) read, “FJMC Biennial Convention July 25 – 29, 1999 at the Nevele Grand Hotel in Ellenville, NY”. On page 4, Tapuz editor and future Florida Region FJMC President Jeff Litt filed the following report:
“The 1999 FJMC convention will be held July 25 to 29 at the Nevele Grand Hotel in New York’s Catskill Mountains. The theme for this convention is “Lech Lecha, We are what we do.” Some of the highlights anticipated include the following:
- Major addresses by distinguished Rabbis Addison, Feinstein, Fellner, Harlow and Rosenbloom.
- Workshops, such as “How Does a real Man Relate?”, “In G-d’s Image”, “Men’s Bible – Reading Torah through our eyes”, and ” Fathers and Sons: Broken Promises, Unspoken Dreams.”
- Learner’s Minyan and Synagogue & Ritual Skills Refresher Course.
- First time attendees orientation.
- First public viewing of the new FJMC video, “Ties that Bind”, instruction for the proper wearing of Tefillin.
Another highlight of the convention are the Ma’asim Tovim (Doer of Good Deeds) Awards. The recipient of this award for the Florida Region is David Rose. David is a member of Temple Beth Tikvah in Greenacres, FL. He is past Men’s Club president and continues in a leadership role as chairman of the membership committee. It is because of his commitment to the Men’s Club and to Judaism that he is our honoree.“
