An important message from the desk of Florida Region FJMC Rabbinic and Spiritual Advisor Rabbi Michael D. Klein

“Upon returning from our trip to Israel at the end of 2024, I was amazed by one particular set of observations about the people of Israel. Despite the fact that Israel has suffered the greatest single loss of lives since the Shoah, and despite the fact that Israel is still embroiled in war with its adversaries on 5 fronts, and despite the renaissance of anti-semitism throughout the world, Israelis are involved in building and growing their country and economy.

What lessons can be learned from these facts? The first lesson we learn is resilience! We have always been the victims of causeless hatred. Yet with G-d’s help we persevere. Many great and formerly powerful nations have disappeared into the dustbin of history. We have been forced repeatedly in our history to deal with those who hate us and what we stand for. Yet within Israel and in the diaspora and when those who hate us rise up to persecute us or even worse, we overcome them.

The second lesson we learn is adaptability. The success of Judaism is that we can apply the Torah as our guide to deal with ever-changing realities and situations. The Judaism of today, while inexorably connected to the past, is continually finding new and spiritual ways of connecting our people to one another and Israel. We utilize technology to connect to our modern world but maintain our steadfast faith and observance and our connection to Hashem and each other.

Many wonderful events will be forthcoming in the next few months. They include World Wide Wrap, Shabbat across America and Canada, Tu Bishevat, Purim, and many activities that encourage us to share and grow together. We will continue to be resilient and adaptable and connect to Jews in Israel and around the globe.

Am Yisroel Chai !”
