The Congregation B'nai Torah (CBT) Men's Club of Ormond Beach wishes everyone Happy Adar 5785 and looks ahead to an exciting year of engaging programs and events.

Congregation B’nai Torah (CBT) or Ormond Beach is a community that will touch your heart, engage your mind and expand your Jewish soul; a friendly congregation that celebrates Shabbat and holidays as a community and shares their love of Judaism and enrich each other’s lives.

Congregation B’nai Torah Men’s Club President Mark Givarz describes his Men’s Club as an active group of men committed to creating programs which appeal to a wide array of interests while promoting camaraderie, friendship, community service, and study. “The CBT Men’s Club strives to create family friendly events while making Judaism more meaningful to our members through promoting religious, cultural and social activities, ensuring Tzedakah is at the core of what we do”, said Mark Givarz. “Everyone is welcome to join us for fun times, learning and performing mitzvot.

The CBT Men’s Club opened their 2025 season by introducing the FJMC Hearing Men’s Voices (HMV) initiative to Congregation B’nai Torah; the program was well received. In the February 2025 issue of B’nai Torah’s monthly newsletter Torah Times, CBT congregational President Howard Silverstein commented on the program within his President’s Message. “Our fantastic events in January included the first “Hearing Men’s Voices” a unique program with Mark (Givarz) facilitating the first session called “Meet My Father,” sponsored by the Men’s Club and an opportunity for men to truly share!

Men’s Club scored a perfect trifecta during February. On Superbowl Sunday when the CBT Men’s Club took part in the FJMC World Wide Wrap, an international, coordinated minyan encouraging Jewish men and women to learn about and participate in one of the basic commandments in the Torah: the wrapping of tefillin. “It was a great opportunity to ‘tie one on’“, said CBT Men’s Club President Mark Givarz. The CBT Men’s Club also marked February with a successful Superbowl Squares fundraiser as well as a sold-out “Lunch and Learn” program featuring retired Oil industry executive and CBT congregant, Ray Leonard who facilitated a discussion on the subject of “Climate Change from an Oil Man’s Perspective”.

Looking ahead, the FJMC Sefer Haftarah World Tour is scheduled to visit Congregation B’nai Torah during the week March 19 through March 26, 2025. The Sefer Haftorah scroll will be on display for all to see when it is not in use. We will be reading part of the Haftorah on Shabbat morning directly from the FJMC Sefer Haftorah scroll. This is your opportunity for everyone to get up close and personal with the FJMC Sefer Haftarah; be there.

As time marches forward, it is our task to remember and teach about the Shoah. During April, the Temple B’nai Torah Men’s Club will distribute FJMC Shoah Yellow Candles™ to our CBT family of families. On the night of Yom HaShoah, the candles will be lit to shine a light of memory, a light of education, and a light that we will never forget. By participating in this program, you are helping to keep the memory of the Shoah alive and to remember what could happen if we don’t stand up for ourselves. Yom HaShoah begins at sundown Wednesday April 23, 2025 / 27 Nisan 5785. Please join us in a moment of solidarity for our six million brothers and sisters that were lost in the Shoah.

Congregation B’Nai Torah’s Men’s Club & Sisterhood Shabbat will take place on Friday evening April 25, 2025. Please join with our CBT Men’s Club and Sisterhood for a fun and participatory Kabbalat Shabbat service and outstanding oneg. More information coming soon.
