The sunshine state is blessed to have dozens of dynamic Jewish Men’s Clubs and Brotherhoods and the Congregation Beth Shalom (CBS) Brotherhood of Clearwater is one of the shining jewels of Pinellas County. The CBS Brotherhood also has the distinction of being the home club of Florida Region FJMC Immediate Past President, Blake Lenett.
Congregation Beth Shalom of Clearwater, Florida is an egalitarian Conservative synagogue of almost 230 families. Known as as a compassionate, welcoming, inclusive and above all, loving, faith-based Jewish community, people describe CBS as “my family” and “comfortable”. Almost 230 families join together in prayer, song, education, service of the heart, and the celebration of life-cycle events in a true feeling of togetherness.
The CBS Brotherhood is made up of a group of individuals dedicated to the growth of our organization and the building of a strong fellowship among the men of CBS. The Brotherhood offers you many ways to participate in strengthening the synagogue and community by mixing opportunities for service with chances for men to interact both socially and spiritually.
The Brotherhood organizes many outstanding social and educational programs to keep the CBS membership informed, involved and engaged. In August, the Brotherhood hit a home run with two well attended programs; a Clearwater Threshers Minor League baseball game on August 1st followed by the annual Jewish Heritage game between the NY Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays on August 27th that drew 35 CBS Brotherhood members. The momentum continued into September with a well attended financial educational program cosponsored by the Sisterhood featuring guest speaker Greg Fox who discussed Wills, Trust and Estate Planning.
CBS Brotherhood Co-Presidents Frank Rubin and Jeff Brown are planning an exciting year of programs and events. On September 26 the Brotherhood will assemble to erect the CBS Sukkah, leading up to our annual Pets & Pizza in the Sukkah on October 5. In November, the CBS Brotherhood will honor all who served at a special Veterans Shabbat program, followed on November 18 by the Brotherhood’s annual Deli Night featuring delicious Kosher meat as well as several “game” tables for individuals to play the “game “of their choice.
Looking ahead to, the Brotherhood’s annual meeting for election of new officers for the 2024-25 term will take place on December 3. The Brotherhood will sponsor a December 24 program with a Chinese Food and Movie Night. In January the Brotherhood will take a trip to Aspirations Winery for a tour and tasting experience. On February 3 the Brotherhood will bring the Ruach at the annual CBS Brotherhood Shabbat, followed by the FJMC World Wide Wrap on Superbowl Sunday morning, February 11, 2024.
