According to the latest US Census data, Florida is one of the fastest growing regions of the country with population growth of 2.7 million (14.6%) between 2010 and 2020, double the rate of overall US population. With a population of 65,398 as per 2019 U.S. Census Bureau estimates, Wellington, Florida is the most populous village in the state as well as the fifth largest municipality in Palm Beach County by population. Wellington has the distinction of being the winter equestrian capital of the world, as well as the home of the Temple Beth Torah Brotherhood.
Temple Beth Torah is a vibrant Reform Jewish Congregation located in the west-central Palm Beach County Village of Wellington. It considers itself “A Family of Families,” actively engaged in the lives of some 1,100 people – more than 100 young children in its accredited preschool, some 250 kids from kindergarten to grade 12 in its religious school programs, dozens of kids in its NFTY youth programs, and 750 adults who call Temple Beth Torah their spiritual home. TBT is active in the Wellington/Royal Palm Beach community, as well as the greater Jewish community of south Florida.
The mission of Temple Beth Torah’s Brotherhood is to promote an ongoing relationship with G-d, Torah, Israel and the Jewish people through worship, study, culture and Tikkun Olam (repairing the world), L’dor V’Dor (from generation to generation), with special emphasis on our youth as the path to the future. The TBT Brotherhood sponsors numerous social and volunteer activities during the year, ranging from events centered exclusively on the male members of the Temple, but also in conjunction with the temple’s Sisterhood.
New Brotherhood President Paul Gaba has been with Temple Beth Torah since 2019 and was the Brotherhood’s secretary the past two years. Working with Brotherhood Vice President Sam Glucksman, Treasurer Roger Grave de Peralta, Secretary Bob Eisenberg and President Emeritus Joel Zaidspiner, Gaba envisions a group which expands its social reach for Temple members, while staying true to its core values.
“I’ve been fortunate the past few years to work with Brotherhood’s officers and active members to learn about the Temple and about Brotherhood, and intend to take all of this and continue the positive activities we have been hosting,” Gaba said. “I’m also looking to increase our membership, and our focus to make this happen is to provide the Temple membership as a whole a variety of regular and new opportunities to socialize.“
The Temple Beth Torah Brotherhood has started out its 2023-24 campaign with a bang, introducing a monthly “Bros Night Out” social hour which will rotate among area venues, as well as its annual Kickoff Party & Football Night which coincided with the NFL’s Thursday Night opener. All of these events have seen a vibrant and robust attendance, which bodes well for the rest of the year and beyond. The Brotherhood also constructed the Temple Sukkah, which subsequently hosted the Temple’s Breakfast in the Sukkah.
On the immediate horizon for Brotherhood will begin a November to Remember with a general Brotherhood meeting on Sunday November 5, followed by participation on the annual Temple BBQ and Picnic at Loxahatchee Groves Park on November 12 at noon and “Bro’s Night Out” on November 28. Looking ahead to December, the TBT Brotherhood is accepting reservations for their annual “Latkes & Vodka Party” on Saturday night, December 2 at 7pm. The TBT Brotherhood is also in the planning stages of a family-friendly Mini Golf Tournament and our annual Poker Night fundraiser.
