As time marches forward, it is our task to remember and teach about the Shoah. In honor International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the FJMC Middle Atlantic Region co-sponsored screening the documentary Rebuilt from Broken Glass at the Weitzman National Museum of Jewish American History, including opening remarks by Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney and a post screening Q&A with director, Larry Hanover and star of the documentary, Fred Behrend.

I do appreciate your sharing this with your region“, said FJMC Middle Atlantic Region President Lester Shapiro. “It would be great to introduce the film for possible showings in the future through your including on the post. The producer and director of the film, Larry Hanover, is a past club president from our region and Fred Behrend, his inspiration and co-author of their book together, is a fellow congregant and dear friend.” For more information how you can bring a screening of Rebuilt from Broken Glass to your Men’s Club or Brotherhood, please contact Lester Shapiro at LesterShapiro@marfjmc.org.

Light a Candle – Preserve a Memory

Each year, the FJMC Shoah Yellow Candle™ Program distributes tens of thousands Yellow Candles™ to Men’s Clubs, Brotherhoods and houses of worship to help remember the Holocaust. Florida Region FJMC Yellow Candle™ Chair Jon Zimmer explains: Men’s Clubs and other organizations around the world order Yellow Candles™ from the FJMC and distribute them to their membership with a short explanation of the program. On the night of Yom HaShoah, the candles are lit in homes across the globe to shine a light of memory, a light of education, and a light that we will never forget. By participating in this program, you are helping to keep the memory of the Shoah alive and to remember what could happen if we don’t stand up for ourselves. We’d like to give all our clubs in the Region a friendly reminder to place your order for your Yellow Candles™ at https://www.fjmc.org/order-yellow-candles.

Erev Yom HaShoah is Monday, April 17th/ 27 Nisan 5783. We encourage Clubs to start planning your programs now and take the first step of ordering/replenishing your supply of Yellow Candles™ and mailers. I look forward to working with our clubs and assisting in any way possible. Please do not hesitate to reach out. Thank you for all the work you are doing to implement this important program!
