Join the Kol Ami Brotherhood and make new friends that will last a lifetime

Tampa is a city on Tampa Bay, along Florida’s Gulf Coast. Tampa is known for its many museums, Busch Gardens amusement park and historic Ybor City, developed by Cuban and Spanish cigar-factory workers at the turn of the 20th century. Tampa is also the home of the Kol Ami Brotherhood.

Congregation Kol Ami is a kehillah (community) dedicated to innovation and tradition resulting in an inclusive, multi-generational community committed to improving ourselves and the world through ritual, educational, and social activities consistent with contemporary Conservative Judaism. The Brotherhood is an integral arm of Kol Ami. Throughout the year, the Brotherhood of Kol Ami engages and connects their members through a variety of educational and social events such as the annual Super Bowl party, Craft Beer Tasting Night, various happy hours/pub nights where they can relax and enjoy a beverage together, an annual Firearm Safety Day (fun AND educational), the annual Cigars and Scotch night and more.

In the words of Kol Ami Brotherhood President (and Florida Region FJMC Vice President) Jon Zimmer, “It’s been an eventful summer for our award winning Brotherhood. I attended the FJMC (Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs) convention this June in Philadelphia with hundreds of other members and clubs from all throughout North America. The Brotherhood of Kol Ami was privileged to win its third consecutive “Quality Club” award. We also won an individual “Torch” award (silver) for our popular and annual Firearm Safety Day. We are very proud and grateful Brotherhood was recognized. With the school year just starting, we are back in the swing of things. If you didn’t stop by Brotherhood’s table this past Sunday at kickoff, here are just a few things we have coming up:

This past Sunday August 27, before 85 of us headed out to watch the Rays play some last place team from New York, Ari Horowitz, chairman of the Brotherhood’s Chai Guys met to beautify the shul by doing yard work, pulling weeds, cutting branches and such. We also have High Holiday setup (chairs and books) on Sunday morning, September 10th and Sukkah setup on Wednesday, September 27th at 5:30pm; please stop by and lend a hand.

Thursday, September 21 will be the Brotherhood’s 6th annual Craft Beer Tasting Night at Carrollwood’s newest craft brewery; Wulfaven Brewing, right off Gunn Highway. It’s great to support a local small business. The owner will give us a tour of the facility and explain some of the brewing process. $20 for members, $25 for non-members, open to all adults 21 and up. We’ll be getting pizza in addition to our flight of beers and the tour.

On Monday, October 2, the Brotherhood will host our Steaks in the Sukkah event. Steak (or chicken), beverages and a little learning. A few weeks later, our FJMC Torch award winning Firearm Safety Day will take place on Sunday, October 15 at Shooting Sports, near the shul on 7811 N. Dale Mabry Highway. Please RSVP to brotherhood.kolami@gmail.com for any of these events, or to offer any suggestions, ideas or feedback. Brotherhood is you, and we would love to hear from anyone from Kol Ami on how to improve our organization. L’Shanah Tovah to all, and looking forward to seeing you at shul.”
