When you Choose Shabbat, you choose to learn that every Shabbat is different and special.
This week is extra special indeed. On Friday night when we light Shabbat candles, we will close out the year 5783 and open the Book of Life for 5784 with Rosh Hashanah.
This special Shabbat – the Shabbat between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur – is known as Shabbat Shuvah or Shabbat of Return, because its special Haftarah reading that begins with the words Shuvah Yisrael, “Return O Israel”, from the prophecy of Hoshea.
May you and your family be blessed with a sweet new year, and be inscribed and sealed in the Book of Life for 5784 and beyond.
