For over a decade, each year the South Florida sub region of the Florida Region of the Jewish Federation of Men’s Clubs have been traveling down to Miami for the annual Miami Marlins Jewish Heritage Game. This year the Marlins did a name change and called it a Jewish Heritage Celebration – one of many heritage celebrations that the Marlins are having that spotlight the ethnic diversity of South Florida.
On Sunday August 27, Temple Beth Am of Margate, Temple B’nai Torah of Boca Raton and Temple Torat Emet of Boynton Beach Men’s Clubs brought over almost 90 men and women to loanDepot park to help celebrate our Jewish Heritage by listening and singing Hatikvah along with the Star Spangled Banner to open the game.
Beth Am’s Men’s Club President, Larry Schwartz strutted his stuff, got to run out on the field and place the rosin bag on the pitcher’s mound.
At the bottom of the 2nd inning, the Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs was spotlighted on the Jumbotron as the “Group of the Game”.
There was kosher food to be purchased at the game and Hava Nagila was sung during the 7th inning stretch. And guess what ? The Marlins beat the Washington Nationals to make the afternoon a total success.
Many thanks to Larry Schwartz of Temple Beth Am and Gary Dalin & Ed Kochman of Temple Torat Emet for contributing photographs and descriptions of this event, without which this post would not be possible.
