Yom HaShoah begins at sundown Sunday May 5th, 2024 / 27 Nisan 5784

Dear Friends,

At no other time, since the revelation of the horrors of the Shoah, have we been faced with the realization that the evil which we thought had been eradicated still exists in an equally insidious form. The attack upon our people on October 7th, 2023, on what is normally one of the happiest events of the Jewish year, brought us back to the darkest days of the “Final Solution”, when the Nazis and their collaborators sought the extermination of our people. The murder of our people, the kidnapping and brutalization of our innocents, the death of our brave IDF soldiers is only made worse by the indifference and outright antisemitism which we are experiencing worldwide. We are reminded of the attack on our people by Amalek, who attacked the most vulnerable as we exited Egypt on our journey to the promised land.

Light a Candle – Preserve a Memory

This year, our commemoration of Yom HaShoah will be accentuated by donations to those in Israel who need our help. This year our yellow candles will be accompanied by the actions of raising our voices at rallies and letters to those in government and local officials and confronting evil whenever it rears its ugly head. This year the yellow candles will symbolize the courage of those brave soldiers and first responders of the IDF and American Armed Forces who stand at the forefront of the battle to overcome the evil that pervades the world.

We will fulfill the mitzvot of remembering and action by joining with all Florida Region FJMC Men’s Clubs and distributing and lighting Yellow Candles in sacred memory of those whose lives were obliterated by the very same hatred which led to the horrible events of the Shoah on Holocaust Memorial Day which will take place on Monday May 6th,2024. We are deeply appreciative to the FJMC affiliated Men’s Clubs for assisting all of us in fulfilling the Mitzvot of Zachor – “Remember”. Please consider making donations to the Men’s Club to assist in this program and in helping Men’s Club in assisting Jewish families through their support of Summer Camp Scholarships, March of the Living and other worthwhile projects that increase and enhance Jewish identity and seek to educate, inform, and provide action to enhance our awareness of Jewish values.

As Rabbinic Adviser to the State of Florida Region Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs I say thank you for your continued support and participation.

As time marches forward, it is our task to remember and teach about the Shoah – Yom HaShoah begins at sundown Sunday May 5th, 2024 / 27 Nisan 5784. Each year, the FJMC Shoah Yellow Candle™ Program distributes tens of thousands Yellow Candles™ to Men’s Clubs, Brotherhoods and houses of worship to help remember the Holocaust. On the night of Yom HaShoah, the candles are lit in homes across the globe to shine a light of memory, a light of education, and a light that we will never forget. By participating in this program, you are helping to keep the memory of the Shoah alive and to remember what could happen if we don’t stand up for ourselves.
