There are over a hundred Synagogues, Men’s Clubs and Brotherhoods spread across the State of Florida and each one is unique. Today we will take you on a trip to Palm Beach County to shine a spotlight on the Temple Anshei Shalom Men’s Club of Delray Beach.
Temple Anshei Shalom (TAS) is a welcoming congregation offering a broad menu of programs and services. Both Conservative and Egalitarian, Anshei Shalom celebrates our Jewish roots by observing traditional rituals, teachings and holidays and by expanding our understanding of Jewish culture through Lifelong Learning classes, lectures and lively discussions. The Men’s Club Anshei Shalom are a dynamic group of Jewish Men of all ages from all walks of life and offer good fellowship, monthly Sunday breakfast meetings and in conjunction with Sisterhood we help to raise funds to support the Temple.
Over the past few months, the Temple Anshei Shalom Men’s Club organized several fun and enjoyable programs in coordination with the TAS Sisterhood. During October, Men’s Club and Sisterhood sponsored a joint breakfast program featuring guest speaker is Elliott Colchamiro on the topic “The Jews of Greece” as well as a “Getting to Know You Ice Cream Social”. During December, Men’s Club and Sisterhood celebrated the first night of Chanukah with a fabulous sit down dinner and musical entertainment to dance the night away as we light our first candle together. The fun continued with a week-long Caribbean Chanukah cruise on the Norwegian Encore.
The Temple Anshei Shalom Men’s Club and Sisterhood began 2024 with a luncheon at Ben’s Kosher Deli in Boca Raton and a joint breakfast meeting featuring guest speaker Sol Moglen showing a movie on “THE EDDIE CANTOR STORY”. January 2024 also saw a full house for the annual Men’s Club & Sisterhood Shabbat. During February the TAS Men’s Club and Sisterhood hosted a joint breakfast meeting featuring guest speaker Ellen Rubin speaking about what is going on with FOREIGN AFFAIRS in the Middle East and Israel.
In the March/April edition of Temple Anshei Shalom’s newsletter “Kol” Men’s Club President Bob Rothman reports, “February 14 proved to be a very successful Lunch and Game Party. We will plan it again. Purim is around the corner and we will once again be selling our Mishaloach Manot Gift boxes. Please watch for the flyers for further info. Our Sisterhood and Men’s Club Shabbat was a great success and look forward to doing it again next year. Looking for ideas to keep the Singles Group active. Please help me!! Once again, we are always looking for new fun fundraising ideas. Just let me know. The Gift Shop looks beautiful with lots of new items. Just stop in and say “hello.” And, we are always looking for volunteers to help us out.“
Looking ahead, on Wednesday March 13 at 1:30pm the Anshei Shalom Men’s Club and Sisterhood will sponsor a joint lunch program featuring guest speaker Professor Harriett Sepinwall, who established a Holocaust Center at St. Elizabeth University in Morristown, NJ and ran it for 25 years. She will present the award winning film, “A Holocaust Journey Lessons We Learned”, profiling the stories of a group of students who traveled to Berlin and Poland with the aim of trying to comprehend the reality of the Holocaust. On Sunday March 17 at 10am, the monthly Anshei Shalom Men’s Club and Sisterhood breakfast will feature Judith Levy, author, lecturer, humorist & singer. She will be doing a presentation of “Golda” in her early years and her great successes as Prime Minister of Israel. She is fabulous, don’t miss out seeing her.
