Join the Temple Torat Emet Men's Club and become one of the guys
Florida Region FJMC President Ed Kochman and Spiritual Advisor Rabbi Michael Klein are members of the Temple Torat Emet Men’s Club

The Temple Torat Emet Men’s Club of Boynton Beach regularly comes together to involve Jewish Men in Jewish life and help address family and community concerns in a spirit of camaraderie and fun. The Men’s Club sponsors blood drives, visits the sick, tutors children, builds sukkot and engages in serious discussions about being a man in an increasingly egalitarian world. They cultivate volunteers and train leaders, find jobs for those in need, sponsor parent-child activities and athletic events, help families learn to make Shabbat, read Hebrew, commemorate Yom HaShoah and put on tefillin, as well as raise needed funds for their synagogue, the community and the global Conservative/Masorti Movement.

Each year the Temple Torat Emet Men’s Club offers its members a array of fun activities. Recent Club activities include “A Chorus Line” at FAU, the Marlins for Jewish Heritage day, the Panthers for “Chanukah Hockey Guys Night Out” and a Sunday morning bagel & lox tailgate breakfast to watch the Miami Dolphins play the Kansas City Chiefs. Other recent Temple Torat Emet Men’s Club programs and events included a sold-out “BEATLEMANIAX-USA” live concert and a trip to MLB Spring Training.

Looking head to the High Holidays 5785 and beyond, Club Co-Presidents Ira Brandell and Harry Saltzman invite you to join your Men’s Club brothers on Sunday morning October 13, 2024 for a delicious Bagel breakfast and help erect the synagogue Sukkah.

The following Sunday October 20, all Men’s Club members are invited to raising a glass and enjoy a kosher Chinese dinner at a special paid-up membership Men’s Club event.

On October 27, the Torat Emet Men’s Club will cosponsor a joint breakfast meeting with our Sisterhood featuring a special presentation by Rabbi Plotkin on his new book, “Wisdom Grows in My Garden”.

As time marches forward it is incumbent on each of us to Zachor; remember and learn about the Shoah and the stories of those that were lost as well as the those who survived.

The Temple Torat Emet Men’s Club is planning a November to remember, beginning on November 10 at 3pm with an afternoon of live theater at FAU to see “The Last Yiddish Speaker” by Deborah Zoe Laufer; a telling tale that takes place in an alternate timeline…. “during the years following a “successful” January 6th insurrection where a white supremacist regime has come into power. Paul and his teenage daughter, Sarah, live under the radar in a small town upstate as Christian-passing, despite being Jews who fled New York City. When an ancient Yiddish-speaking woman arrives on their doorstep, Paul and Sarah are forced to decide between fleeing again or fighting for their faith, their heritage and their identity.” Don’t miss your chance to see this powerful performance.

The theme of Zachor will continue on Sunday morning November 17 when the Temple Torat Emet Men’s Club will host a LIVE & In-Person Men’s Club Breakfast and Kristallnacht commemoration featuring a very special guest speaker: Kindertransport survivor Leo Frydman. For more information or to RSVP and register for this exciting event, please email RichNebb@Gmail.com.

Leo Frydman is a Kindertransport survivor. He was 6-1/2 years old when he left Munich in June 1939 and was lucky to get out with his older brothers and younger sister, very unusual for so many children to get out together, particularly when the charge was 50 pounds per child (the equivalent of about $3,500 per child in today’s money, a huge sum given the fact that their parents had been stripped of their professions and their occupations) to assure the British government that they would not become burdens on the government or the families who were caring for them. His parents were able to leave for Belgium but when the Nazis conquered Belgium, his parents were never heard from after 1942 and he does not know which camp they perished in. Leo was separated from his siblings for a while before the older non-Jewish couple caring for his younger sister decided they could care for him as well. (Initially they refused to do so, but when they realized that the little girl was so easy to care for, they agreed to take him in too.) During the Nazi bombing, he and many others were evacuated to the English countryside. When he turned 10, he was placed in a Jewish hostel in order to have a Bar Mitzvah. After the war, his sister emigrated to Israel while he and his brothers left for America.
