Support the Abayudaya as a way of supporting global Jewry.

It is incumbent upon all Jews to care for each other. We recognize that our attention is focused on Israel at this crucial moment. We are hopeful that our men can support the Abayudaya children, even while we are praying and supporting Israel. We have the capacity to do both.FJMC Abayudaya Liaison David Freiman

Masorti Olami is excited to share that our Abayudaya communities in Uganda have started a rabbinic coalition known as the Abayudaya Rabbinic Union, bringing together all spiritual leaders including from the two orthodox communities of Putti and KKSY.

The group, which meets regularly to learn from each other and share words of Torah, hopes to hold workshops, seminars, and conferences where their spiritual leaders will be given the opportunity to learn and grow professionally. It will also be a launch pad for those who would like to go to rabbinic school.

Another one of their goals is to unite the Abayudaya communities, despite their denominational differences, by having a united presence on all their lifecycle events and hopefully on celebrations like Purim and Hanukkah that do not require halakhic strictness on travel and work. Rabbi Gershom Sizomu, senior rabbi of the Abayudaya communities shares, “We want to encourage and motivate our spiritual leaders to become more active by providing them with a monthly stipend to host a Shabbat lunch and ‘learn kiddush’ for their members, for which we need extra support”.

Masorti Olami is proud of how much our Abayudaya communities are growing and developing.
