November in Florida is pure delight, and the Men’s Clubs and Brotherhoods of Florida Region FJMC are planning many delightful programs and events in the coming weeks to bring you a November and December to remember.
But first….. SAVE THE DATE for the next Florida Region FJMC LIVE Men’s Club & Brotherhood meeting and training on Sunday morning January 12, 2025 at Temple Israel – Orlando, 50 S. Moss Road in Winter Springs, Florida. Many thanks to Natan Brener and the Temple Israel Men’s Club for hosting our first face-to-face Florida Region FJMC club meeting of 2025. ALL Florida Region FJMC Men’s Clubs and Brotherhoods are encouraged to register for this FREE event. This will be an in-person meeting. The morning will begin with 9:00 am minyan, followed by breakfast, Club meeting and training to follow. We have a lot of information to cover including updated Quality Club Award requirements, the World Wide Wrap, strategic planning for 2025, FJMC International Convention, July 3 to 6, 2025 in Chicago and more. On November 3, the Temple Beth Am Men’s Club (Margate) will host a special Sunday Speaker event featuring Shoah survivor Walter Klein to discuss his experiences as part of the Kindertransport. Sunday November 24 is the day to join the Beth Am Men’s Club for a day of bowling fun, bowling followed by an outing to Monster Miniature Golf on December 3. The Beth Am Men’s Club will close out the last night of Chanukah 5785 and ring in the new year on Thursday January 2, 2025 with an outing to see the Stanley Cup winning Florida Panthers play the Carolina Hurricanes. Winter in Palm Beach County is awesome and the Temple Beth El Men’s Club (West Palm Beach) is planning a schedule of fun and engaging activities. Please save the dates to join them for Brunch and a Movie on Sunday December 8. On Wednesday December 25 the Beth El Men’s Club will sponsor “Six13”, a groundbreaking, six-man a cappella vocal band that is bringing an unprecedented style and energy to Jewish music, with nothing but the power of the human voice. Six13 has made appearances around the world for millions, to rave reviews and standing ovations. They’ve played the White House, the Chabad Telethon, Washington D.C.’s Kennedy Center, and multiple times traversed New York’s Fifth Avenue in the Salute to Israel Parade, headlined the North American Jewish Choral Festival, and sang for major league sporting events at Shea Stadium, Citi Field, Madison Square Garden and Dolphin Stadium and this is YOUR chance to see them here in West Palm Beach. December 29 Men’s Club and Women’s League will host a Chanukkah Party; come for the candles, stay for the latkes.
The Congregation Beth Shalom Brotherhood (Clearwater) is working to bring a stellar portfolio of programs and events beginning with a special Veteran’s Shabbat service on November 9. On Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at 7:00pm the CBS Brotherhood will present “Defending Israel : Military Innovations of the IDF” featuring guest speaker Dr. Eric Steckler, followed by a trip to see the Tampa Bay Lightning Jewish Heritage Night on December 19 and their Brotherhood Annual Fundraiser event, tentatively scheduled for January 5, 2025. Save the date, Sunday January 12, 2025 at 7:00pm when the CBS Brotherhood will present “Latest Israeli Innovations in Medical, Agricultural, Green and Consumer Technologies” featuring guest speaker Eric Pastman. Southwest Orlando Jewish Congregation Men’s Club President Mitch Katcher reports that on November 10, members of Men’s Club planted three new trees at SOJC in the morning and then conducted one of our Mitzvah Days by preparing sandwiches and care packages to be distributed to the homeless in Orlando later that afternoon. On November 26, the SOJC Men’s Club will meet for a 2025 planning meeting as well as pizza and a poker game to follow. On December 8, the SOJC Men’s Club we will meet at Gators Dockside in O-Town West at noon for and NFL get-together. On December 25 the SOJC Men’s Club will take part in Mitzvah Day, delivering food to the homeless in Orlando. The Temple Torat Emet Men’s Club (Boynton Beach) is planning a November to remember, beginning on November 10 with an afternoon of live theater at FAU to see “The Last Yiddish Speaker” by Deborah Zoe Laufer; a telling tale that takes place during the years following a “successful” January 6th insurrection where a white supremacist regime has come into power and Jews are forced to convert or live under the radar as Christian-passing. The theme of Zachor continues Sunday morning November 17 when the Temple Torat Emet Men’s Club will host a LIVE & In-Person Men’s Club Breakfast and Kristallnacht commemoration featuring a very special guest speaker: Kindertransport survivor Leo Frydman. On Thursday December 12, the Torat Emet Men’s Club invites you to try your luck, spin the slots and roll the dice at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. The Temple Beth Torah Brotherhood (Wellington) recently hosted a Bro Night Out Football viewing party to watch the Miami Dolphins take on Buffalo Bills. The Brotherhood will be front and center at the annual Temple Beth Torah Picnic on Sunday November 10, followed by “Bros Night Out” at Seven Axes for an evening of Ave Throwing on November 14. December will include the final “Bros Night Out” of the 2024 season, followed by a Latke and Vodka extravaganza on December 21. Looking ahead, save the dates for future editions of “Bro’s Night Out” on Thursday January 9 and 30, February 20, April 3 and 30 and May 29, 2025. The Shomrei Torah Men’s Club (Tallahassee) recently hosted a Kosher corned beef and pastrami sandwich sale. “We prepare, serve and sell between 100 and 150 kosher sandwiches, homemade cole slaw and a potato knish to our community“, said club president Sam Kimelman. “Most of the sales are to non-members in our community. There is no deli in Tallahassee, so this is the closest to a real deal. Our next one is scheduled for December 8“. Looking ahead to Chanukah 5785, the Shomrei Torah Men’s Club will host a “Latke Bar” and Chanukah menorah lighting at 5pm on Friday December 27, followed by fresh and hot, home-made latkes. Men’s Club prepares the latkes and participates in a community-wide PJ Library gelt drop, co-sponsored by the Tallahassee Jewish Federation, Temple Israel (reform) and Congregation Shomrei Torah (conservative). The Shomrei Torah Men’s Club generally gathers monthly for fellowship, food and an occasional poker game but there is always room for new faces at the table.
