The Temple Beth Torah Brotherhood’s mission is to promote an ongoing relationship with G-d, Torah, Israel and the Jewish people through worship, study, culture and Tikkun Olam (repairing the world), L’dor V’Dor (from generation to generation), with special emphasis on our youth as the path to the future. The TBT Brotherhood sponsors numerous social and volunteer activities during the year, ranging from events centered exclusively on the male members of the Temple, but also in conjunction with the temple’s Sisterhood.
The Temple Beth Torah Brotherhood hosts a monthly “Bros Night Out” event for their members, such as a Monday Night Football viewing party at a local sports bar. (Future “Bro’s Night Out” events are tentatively scheduled for Thursday, April 3, April 30 and May 29, 2025). Other TBT Brotherhood events of note include participation in ShabbatFest at the Wellington Amphitheater and a successful No-Limit Texas Hold’em Charity Poker Tournament – net proceeds from the event will benefit the Temple Beth Torah Brotherhood Student Scholarship Fund.
Temple Beth Torah’s Brotherhood, in conjunction with Temple Emanu El Brotherhood (Cleveland, Ohio), the Westchester Reform Temple’s Men of Reform Judaism (Scarsdale, New York) and Congregation B’nai Israel (Toledo, Ohio), are co-sponsoring a Three-Part Jewish American History Series facilitated via Zoom by Dr. Joellyn Zollman, Jewish History Professor at San Diego State University. The sessions will take place at 7:30pm ET on three consecutive Wednesdays, March 12, March 19 and March 26. The topic for our first session will be “From Eastern Europe to the Lower East Side: American Jewish History, 1880-1924“. According to Zollman, “the arrival of more than two million immigrants from Eastern Europe between 1880 and 1924 changed American Jewish life. We will explore why these Jews came to the U.S., where they settled, and how they shaped the community.” Our March 12 session will focus on the situation of the Jews of Russia at the end of the 19th century, and the conditions that precipitated emigration to America. On March 19 we will explore Eastern European Jewish settlement in America (especially the Lower East Side of NY) and the interaction between these new arrivals and the established American Jewish community. On March 26 we will discuss how Eastern European Jewish immigrants shaped American Jewish culture – including politics, arts, and food. To register for one, two, or all three classes and receive a Zoom login, please scan the QR code on the attached flyer or RSVP via the attached the Google Form link: https://forms.gle/hHcHWJmVuKFXTRjF8.
The annual TBT Purim Carnival will take place on Sunday, March 16 from 11:00am to 2:00pm; Brotherhood members will assist with parking and with distributing food. Sunday, April 6 is Mitzvah Day @ TBT. Numerous Brotherhood projects are taking place all day including a Bloodmobile at TBT (need to RSVP), Sanctuary cleanup, Volunteering within the community in projects for all ages, landscaping outside the TBT including removing old bush & weeds and planting 150 clusia & two trees. We need active participation from TBT Brotherhood members to bring long-handled shovels, pick axes, work gloves, trash bags, water, and manpower. Please RSVP to Paul Gaba.
For this year’s Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) observance, Temple Beth Torah’s Brotherhood will be presenting the honored tradition of Yom HaShoah, The Hall of Remembrance. Yahrzeit candles honoring the memory of those lost to or impacted by the Shoah will be lit and on display in the lobby of Temple Beth Torah on Wednesday evening April 23, each personalized with the names of those remembered and those honoring their memory. Candles may be sponsored in memory of any loved ones lost to or impacted by the Shoah – or if you do not have a lost loved one and want to remember those that perished during the Holocaust, you can sponsor a candle or group of candles “In Memory of The Six Million.” A loving tribute and meaningful focal point at this most important time of reflection. The Hall of Remembrance will be on display in the Temple Beth Torah lobby on April 23. All sponsors will receive pictures of their sponsored candles and the display by email. For the sake of safety, flameless LED candles will be used. To sponsor a candle and honor those lost in the Shoah visit https://members.templebethtorah.net/form/brotherhood_yomhashoahcandle2025. Please place your order by April 15.
Looking ahead, Friday evening May 9, 2025 will be our combined Brotherhood Shabbat and High School Graduation Shabbat service; more details coming soon.
