In the most recent edition of Congregation B’nai Torah “CHAI MAGAZINE“, Men’s Club Co-Presidents Andres Alminana and Elliott Burns reported:
Dear Fellow Congregants.
Our Men’s Club has been busy with great programming and a significant increase in attendance. Our Bagel Bites speaker series has grown in reach, and we look forward to new programming in the Fall. We recently held an event preparing materials for our Yellow Candles project in observance of Yom HaShoah. We were fortunate to be assisted by students from our Mirochnick Religious School and we all had a fun time giving back. A special thank you to Ari Silverman for assisting with the Yellow Candles project. On April 6, we held a joint program with a local chapter of Jewish War Veterans. One of our members, Terry Bresnick, a West Point graduate, spoke on several intriguing topics, including national defense and the contributions of Jewish soldiers in our armed forces. It was truly inspirational to hear, and we thank Terry and the group for their noble service to our country. Additionally, on April 19, we will host the Men’s Club Shabbat. We will award the “Youth of the Year” from our MRS, hear from Rabbi Epelbaum, and honor many of our Men’s Club members and other congregants with an aliyah. Alongside the ever-generous Cliff Viner, my wife Jen and I are proud to help sponsor the accompanying Kiddush lunch and program. We thank Cliff for his substantial generosity in memory of his father, Melvin. Our last Bagel Bites event of the season will be on May 18, featuring state senator and longtime BTC congregant Lori Berman. We look forward to hearing Lori’s views and analysis of the current state of government. Lastly, we are working on organizing a B’nai Torah tennis tournament! Following the overwhelming success of the Yiddishe Cup, we don’t want to leave our tennis-loving friends behind. Please get in touch with us if you are interested in playing, sponsoring, or serving on the committee for this event We are aiming for a Fall date for this event. Please feel free to share any thoughts or questions with us at your convenience. We are always open to new members and input from our congregants to continue building our Men’s Club.
