An Important Message from Congregation Ohev Shalom Men's Club President Mark Berkowitz

The Congregation Ohev Shalom (COS) Men’s Club of Maitland, Florida invites you to save the date for your chance to be a blood donor and save a life.

Our next Blood Drive sponsored by Men’s Club will be held on Sunday, August 18th, 2024, from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm. There will be two BIG RED BUSES in the rear of the COS parking lot. When you drop your kids off at Hebrew School – don’t leave – come over to the bus to donate. You could even attend the 9:00 am Minyan and then hop on the bus. Everyone who contributes will receive a $20.00 eGift card and a OneBlood Tote bag. It’s not about the gift received for donating blood that matters, it’s about donating the gift of life-Blood. Help keep Blood Bank shelves full. You may need blood someday. Every pint of blood given can save up to three lives. YOUR DONATION REALLY MATTERS.

To set an appointment-please call me at 732-522-2900 or email me at VMDBerkowitz@gmail.com. I will be booking time slots in 15-minute increments starting at 8:30 am. Leave a message with your preferred time slot (8:30, 8:45, 9:00, etc.) and I will confirm it with you. You have the option to join as a walk-on, and I’ll ensure you have a seat on the bus. However, if you would like a better chance of securing a preferred time slot, please reach out to me as soon as possible. It is suggested that you eat something before you arrive to make your donation. It is recommended between now and then that you eat foods with lots of iron (spinach, nuts, watermelon, strawberries, etc.). Let me know if you are taking any prescriptions that may or may not disqualify your donation. As much as the hospitals need your blood, I want to make sure you’re approved to give. Also, bring a photo ID and if you know someone else who would like to donate along with you, let me know that as well.

Ensuring the safety of blood donation is paramount. Rigorous screening processes are in place to safeguard both donors and recipients. Sterile equipment and trained professionals further mitigate any risks associated with the donation process. Through these stringent protocols, donating blood remains a safe and crucial act of altruism, saving lives and fostering community well-being. Don’t be afraid to save a life!!!

I am looking forward to hearing from you with your desired time slot and seeing you on Sunday, August 18th!

Your Blood Buddy,

Mark Berkowitz, President Congregation Ohev Shalom Men’s Club
