Shalom brothers,
It’s been a busy past few weeks as FJMC President, making the rounds and visiting a few of our member clubs. One of my goas as Regional President is to see as many clubs as I can and make my presence known. The Florida Region is a brotherhood and while it’s tough to be visible in such a large state as Florida, it’s important to get out when I can and let the clubs know we support them.
On Shabbat morning, March 21, I had the pleasure of attending Temple Beth Am’s Men’s Club Shabbat in Margate (south Florida), led by their President, Larry Schwartz. I was fortunate enough to address the congregation and formally present their club with a well deserved Quality Club Award from the national FJMC, as well as a Torch award for their excellent program, “Men of the Roundtable”. It was great to see Larry, meet members of his shul, and have my good friend and past Florida Regional President Ed Kochman in attendance as well. Yasher Koach to Larry for the great work he’s doing as President.
The following Shabbos, March 28, I was privileged to attend Congregation Ohev Shalom’s Men’s Club Shabbat in Maitland (near Orlando). Many thanks to my brothers President Mark Berkowitz and FJMC Florida Region Board Member Elliott Davis for the invite, it was great to see them. Ohev Shalom had a fantastic guest speaker, noted commentator and editor of the Jewish News Syndicate, Jonathan Tobin. I highly recommend his podcast for those interested On Sunday, April 5, I attended the Passover BBQ at Congregation B’Nai Israel in nearby (to me) St. Petersburg. Thank you, President Cary Reich for the invite! Delicious food during the chag. We saw the Sefer Haftarah, as my synagogue, Kol Ami in Tampa is getting it next. B’Nai Israel liked it so much they are keeping it to read for the 7 th and 8 th days of Pesach! Very glad B’Nai Israel maximized their use of it!
