FJMC Convention is the Life Blood of your Club's Future - Be There

Reported by Norwin Merens, Ha D’var newsletter contributor and past president of the FJMC Midwest Region: nmerens@sbcglobal.net

The Windy City, City of Big Shoulders, Second City and the City that Works. Each moniker aptly describes the city of Chicago, which offers Midwestern values and big-city grit. There’s deep-dish pizza, hot dogs and sports. Let’s not forget the outstanding shopping opportunities, a vibrant music scene, hundreds of theaters and first-class museums. Finally, there are gorgeous parks and miles of beaches to enjoy.

Welcome to Chicago! Whether it’s your first visit or you’re a bona fide Chicagoan, there are many things to do, places to see and people to meet. For an entirely Jewish focus, there’s the Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs (FJMC) Biennial International Convention at the Sheraton Grand Riverwalk Hotel, July 3-6, 2025 in Chicago. This promises to be a terrific week of camaraderie, learning, touring and prayer.

According to FJMC event co-chairs Mark Givarz and Jay Steinmetz, convention programming offers numerous opportunities to renew established men’s club friendships and make new ones during the four days of creative and fun programming.

The jam-packed week includes these pre-convention activities: a Chicago architecture river cruise; a visit to the Museum of Science & Industry; a golf tournament and even time to visit iconic Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs, for a major league baseball game against the Cleveland Guardians.

Time has also been set aside for International Kiddush Club tastings back at the hotel during scheduled evening hospitality times. For those interested in learning more about improving their well being, there will be men’s health sessions. While each June is recognized as Men’s Health month, FJMC encourages men throughout the year to take care of their bodies by eating right, exercising, and working to prevent disease by getting annual physicals. Men are at greater risk for heart disease, even if they don’t have symptoms.
